SW Florida AC Contractor

Community Cooling is a SW Florida ac contractor that puts it’s clients needs first

As a SW Florida ac contractor we talk to a lot of families and businesses that have spent some time and money shopping around for an ac contractor they can trust. One common complaint we hear a lot is that often times, even though their air conditioner is only a few years old, many companies put a great deal of effort into trying to convince them they need new air conditioning equipment, before they even attempt to fix the one they have. When they ask us why that is … we try to explain it as simply as possible.

“… high overhead makes profitability difficult for any large SW Florida ac contractor …”

High overhead makes it very difficult for any SW Florida ac contractor to run his business profitably. High rent, insurance, gas, and the cost of keeping a well stocked truck add up quickly for any air conditioning company. Unfortunately, the bigger the company, the more those expenses go up.  It is estimated that for every truck an air conditioning company has on the road the conmpany (or that truck) needs to generate something in excess of $500 per day just to break even.   Consider these costs …

Truck payments

Insurance

Gasoline

Salary (two men)

Truck maintenance

Permits

Salary for office staff

Tools

Parts

Website costs

Phones

Answering service

Accounting

Advertising

and more …

Advertising was the last specific we mentioned because it is SO VERY expensive!  Radio advertising campaigns cost thousands a month, and television advertising can cost tens of thousands. If you are picking your ac contractor from their radio or tv ads, it’s a safe bet they are going to want to sell you new equipment.  You just can’t reach the kind of numbers they need by doing inspections and general maintenance and repairs.

Honest ac service … at a fair price!

At Community Cooling we keep our overhead low so as to to be able to offer our services at a reasonable cost, that fits our clients needs as well as their budget.  Air conditoner repairs are our spcecialty, and there aren’t too many problems we haven’t seen and fixed before.  Honesty and dependability are the very cornerstones Community Cooling has been built upon. This has been a family business for three generations, and the reputation we earn as a business is a reflection of the values we have as a family, as well as citizens of the SW Florida community.

Hurricane Season 2018 – Is your AC Ready?

The 2018 Hurricane season is here. How prepared are you?

The 2018 hurricane season has arrived. It has only been a year since SW Florida was hit by Hurricane Irma, hopefully the tough lessons learned last year will prove useful in  planning and preparing for another potential hit from a major storm this year. In years past manyof us that were affected by hurricanes “Charlie” and “Wilma” were minimally impacted, and have tended to assume that the Ft Myers area is somehow an “unlikely” region to take a direct hit.

Nothing could be farther from the truth!

Hurricane on course for impact in Florida.

Hurricane on course for impact in Florida.

Adequate Preparation For Hurricane Season

Is Essential To You And Your Family’s

Comfort, Safety, And Survival!

In addition to any and all documents, medical supplies, food and water reserves, and personal hygiene items it is a good idea to put together a “tool and miscellaneous supplies” kit for Hurricane season as well including such items as …

Battery operated radio and extra batteries

Flashlights

Hand operated can opener

Hand tools including a tree saw

Disposable cups, plates, and cups

Cleaning supplies

Plastic sheeting

Buckets

Matches and lighters

Coolers

Propane or charcoal grill or a camping stove (and appropriate fuel)

Needless to say, when making preparations for an approaching storm there is much to be done and many bases to cover. Prescription medicines, water, food, pets, and family members are all at the top of the list as they should be, but, some thought should be given to your family’s air conditioning equipment as well. By recognizing the dangers and following a few simple rules one can greatly reduce the risk of damage to costly equipment and avoid unnecessary repairs.

Community Cooling new flagship service truck

1. Make certain before the storm hits that your a/c unit is secured to the base it sits on. Your unit should

be strapped or bolted down to prevent it being blown around and damaged.

2. If already secured, make sure the bolts or straps are tight and rust free.

3. Make certain the area around your air conditioner is free of any and all objects that could

become airborne and damage your equipment.

4. Turn you A/C off at the thermostat AND at the breaker box. Should major damage occur to your

unit a live electrical circuit could cause injury or fire!

5. In the event of flooding be certain your air conditioner is COMPLETELY dry before reconnecting

power and starting your equipment! After flooding or even temporary immersion in water it is

STRONGLY RECOMMENDED to have your unit thoroughly checked by a

licensed air conditioning contractor to ascertain the equipment is safe to operate!

6. After the storm thoroughly inspect your a/c unit for any signs of damage from flying debris.

7. If your unit has come in contact with salt water it needs to be thoroughly cleaned by an experienced

a/c technician to prevent corrosion from damaging or destroying your equipment.

After a storm has passed it’s a good idea to have your

air conditioning equipment checked for damage, cleaned, and serviced

to ensure safe operation!

Is Your AC Ready For Summer 2018?

Is Your AC Ready For Summer 2018?

Well informed homeowners are calling a lot lately to make certain they have an AC ready for Summer heat. This year, perhaps more than any other, promises to be an extremely hot one. Air conditioners will be challenged to work harder, and longer than ever in their constant battle against heat and humidity. The odds are stacked against them if their ac equipment is running at a fraction of the capability the manufacturers built into the equipment..

More and more we are seeing a diminishing quality in the way air conditioners are being manufactured these days. While technologically advanced, and in many cases “greener” … generally speaking it appears equipment being built overseas (most brands of equipment are now being built, or have components built overseas to keep costs down) doesn’t stand up to abuse, neglect, and being overworked as well as their American made counterparts from 10 years ago.  In my honest opinion … proper and regular air conditioner service has never been more important. With out proper care not only is the level of comfort in your home in jeapordy, but …

… lack of maintenance often leads equipment failure that rquires replacement!

Hurricane Irma Recovery

Hurricane Irma Recovery

Recovering from the impact of a storm like Hurricane Irma requires an entire community. State government, FPL, private contractors, FEMA, and volunteers from the private sector all working together with one common goal in mind … to restore the quality of life for the residents of Marco Island, Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers, Lehigh Acres, Cape Coral, and all of SW Florida.

Hurricane Irma Recovery doesn’t end with simply getting the water out, the power on, and clearing away the trees.  Outdoor equipment, such as air conditioners need to be checked thoroughly by a licensed contractor to ensure safe and efficient operation, not just for now, but, for the foreseeable future as well.  Exposure to water, tides, high winds, or impacts with flying debris can create a myriad of problems, both obvious and unseen, that can have a dire effect on …

Community Cooling Super Bowl 51 Party

Community Cooling Super Bowl 51 Party!

Great game, great food, great people!

Air conditioning contractor Kurt Hartmann, of Community Cooling, hosted a Super Bowl cookout for freinds, family and staff to enjoy not only the game, the half time show, and the advertisements, but also, to sample and share a few of our favorite dishes with some of our favorite people.

Kurt (the owner of Community Cooling) is the resident grill master and once again served up a big pot of his reknowned chicken wings. Kurt monitors the time, heat, spices, and duration to ensure his wings come out both tender (meat falls right of the bone) and crisp (golden brown skin) all at the same time.

Every year Linda Thomas (wife of SEO/Social Media Marketing Strategist Rick Thomas) sends a bowl of albacore tuna/macaroni salad that is so wonderful it is beyond description!  You never know about the game … but … you can count on Linda to send a “super bowl” of macaroni salad!

Thanks Linda!

Rick contributed a tray of chicken salad stuffed tomatoes topped with Baco’s, green pepper and onion slices, black olive, and celery salt.

We were also quite surprised to see a nice shrimp cocktail show up made with collossal shrimp, and with home cocktail sauce that was quite spicy indeed!

Additionally we enjoyed chips, dips, nuts, beers, and soda.  Thanks to all and from all for an evening well spent.

A/C Air Filter Change Leads to Huge Difference In Comfort

A/C Air Filter Change Leads to Huge Difference In Comfort

Community Cooling
Air Conditioner Repair, Service, Maintenance

Fort Myers, Florida

A/C Filters can be a game changer!

A/C air filters are often the most misunderstood and neglected parts of an a/c system, and if they were truly understood, they would never be neglected again! Your air conditioner basically does it’s job by breathing in hot, moist air and breathing out cooler, dryer air. The return air (where the filter is) is where the a/c breathes in, and the individual vents in each room is where the air conditioner breathes out.

Not long ago we received a call from a long time customer asking us to come take a look at her air conditioner. As the heat of the summer came to bear her air conditioner just wasn’t keeping up. She set her thermostat at 76 most days, and typically her a/c would keep up except for the few hottest hours of the afternoon (3 pm to 6 pm). Today  the air conditioner had been running non-stop all day, and the temperature in the house was 82 degrees.  As we were talking and getting such information as necessary to troubleshoot the issue we noticed the return air appeared to “overflowing” with dust and other particulate matter. When we asked her when the last time she had changed the air filter was, she said she had never changed it. That was something her husband had always taken care of, and since he had passed, it had never occurred to her that that was an important thing she should be doing.

When we opened the grill and removed the air filter it was completely caked with dust and dirt! The accumulation was about a half inch thick … the amount of air that the air conditioner was able to pull into the system was GREATLY diminished!

Thid dirty air filter was the reason the a/c ran all day, and never acheiieved the desired level of comfort

Completely clogged air filter

“… it was the mechanical equivalent of having a pillow pushed over it’s face … the A/C just couldn’t breathe!”

We decided to change the filter, and come back the next day to see if that made a difference. The next day we went about our scheduled calls just waiting for customer from the previous day to call, but, the call never came.  Apparently changing the filter had resolved some or all of her issue.  When we went by later in the afternoon to see how she was making out she was delighted …

The temperature in her house was 76 degrees and the moisture in the air was at a comfortable level!

That’s a difference of 6 degrees, plus the extra comfort of reduced humidity, just from changing the A/C filter!

There are a lot of  a/c companies out there that might have taken advantage of the situation, perhaps tried to charge her for a repair, or sold her an unneeded replacement part.  She was a loyal customer for years, not only were we happy to help, but, we showed her how to change the filters herself, left her with a 6 month supply of a/c filters, and didn’t charge her a cent!  Just as she appreciated our reputation for honesty and integrity, we, in turn, appreciated her trust and loyalty.  We were simply happy to help make her home comfortable again.

Proper AC Installation Never More Important

Community Cooling and Heating Inc.

Proper air conditioner installation has never been more important!

Evaporator coils made over the past few years are earning a reputation as “pure garbage” according to many, local to Fort Myers, air conditioning contractors. The coils being made today, having copper tubing and aluminum fins, are proving themselves to have a very high failure rate.  Whether due to poor engineering, low quality materials, or even “planned obsolescence” is unclear, but, one thing is for certain …

… air conditioner coils manufactured in the past three to five years are definitely

not lasting as long as their predecessors!

One major, name brand, air conditioner manufacturer has a class action law suit filed against them due to their high evaporator coil failure rate.

The replacement coils now are mostly all aluminum like this replacement coil on the top.  I’ve replaced more evaporator coils that are anywhere from 8 months to 7/8 years old in the past three years than I have replaced in the past 30 years! The coil pictured on the bottom in the picture below is a Bryant evaporator coil about 7-8 years old.  Bryant has always had an exceptional reputation for quality and durability, and in the past a typical lifespan for a coil such as the one pictured below would be ten to 15 years at a minimum with proper installation and maintenance.  In some cases we are now seeing coils fail after only 7 or 8 MONTHS of service …. and in my opinion that is a disgrace!

Air Conditioner Coils

Air Conditioner Coils

With all of that being said I am going to go out on a limb and say that the air conditioner running your home RIGHT NOW is the toughest and most durable piece of air conditioning equipment you may ever own for the rest of your life … if you are talking air conditioners they just ain’t making them like they used to.  With that in mind, it is now more important than ever to have your equipment serviced regularly, and installed  not just properly, but, with genuine care.  You want to be  certain to use a licensed, qualified contractor in order for your product warranty to be valid, and additionally … make certain that licensed, qualified contractor does his part in processing the paper work that puts your new air conditioner equipment’s warranty into effect.  At Community Cooling we truly believe that attention to detail is a main ingredient in providing value to our customers whether it applies to our technicians work in the field, the paper work in the office, or the level of customer service we provide either in your home or on the phone!

Community Cooling takes great pride in showing up on time, accurately assessing your air conditioning problem, and providing the consumer with the full range of options available to him … and then letting the customer decide which option makes the most sense to him personally, and fits his family’s budget as well!

“Community Cooling had such a good time at the Air Conditioning HVAC Convention this year …
